The Volkswagen Microbus was the 2nd type of vehicle made by Volkswagen after the Beetle. It began production in 1950 and many versions of the 'Splittie' were made using the same basic chassis, including pick-ups, vans, police vans and hearses.
In 1968 the split screen models were replaced by the 'bay-window' T2, but split screens were made in Brazil until 1975
Production was switched in 1984 from air-cooled to water-cooled engines, and the classic Microbus was gone apart from a few special editions made in 2005.
